SQÜRL is the project from Carter Logan, Jim Jarmusch and Shane Stoneback. The track above, Pink Dust, resonated in some strange way with me. Not sure if it is the sampled vocals or the crazy-distorted guitars, but this slow-moving psych-rock is quite lovely.
Mr. Jarmusch is the much-loved film director, screenwriter, actor producer, editor and composer. Now, he can add musician to that list. SQÜRL’s sound has a cinematic feel that would fit perfectly into one of Jarmusch’s films.
SQÜRL’s debut EP Pink Dust is out now via ATP Recordings on vinyl / digital release. The vinyl is hand-numbered (1000 pressed), picture disc, digital download and includes an art postcard. Just like Jarmusch’s movies, this release is also very strange.
Give it a shot. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it something different.
On Fridays, I sometimes like to put Massive Attack’s Paradise Circus on my iPhone and go on secret missions to the printer whilst escaping detection. It makes me feel like I’m some sort of British double-agent recovering sensitive documents for the Queen, when in reality I’m just retrieving my to-do list for next week.

Tropical Heatwave #32 05.11.13
community radio overtook Ybor this weekend
for the (now two days of) multi-venue live music
awesomeness that is WMNF’s Tropical Heatwave.
and guess what?
my little slice of heatwave
was f’ing awesome. no surprise:
Florida Night Heat, Beach Day,
and Ketchy Shuby were busy
rockin the shit out of the Crowbar
before Cody ChesnuTT went and
blew my ghat damb mind at the Ritz.
there were others i would have liked
to have seen, but this was just about
all this girl could handle in one night.
until next year, Heatwave my friend.
Done drank: many Yuenglings and a few CCB Heatwaves (of course)
May the classics always reign supreme, and let old tunes inspire new memories.

Pitchfork reported that TV On The Radio has left Interscope Records. Good.
While, I’ve enjoyed their last few albums, none has had the excitement as Return to Cookie Mountain.
Hopefully, this split from a major label will bring back the thrill of listening to TV on the Radio.
